CBD mental health – You must have come across friends or acquaintances talk about that “high” for which Marijuana is famed. Better yet, you must have experienced it yourself. Tempting as it may sound, the high road to Marijuana is mired with bumps as well. There are a few instances where people have experienced an abrupt racy heartbeat after using this compound for a while. However, just like reactions to any other drug, not everyone has the same experience when it comes to Marijuana’s side-effects. A lot of people experience none at all. The widely-known usage of Marijuana is in fact, elevating your temperament when life gives you lemons.
Marijuana and Mental Illness
Marijuana is more often than not, used by people to experience that feeling of bliss, preferably when they’ve gone through a stressful time. Or maybe, just for the sake of enjoying the gift of life. When it comes to mental illness though, marijuana has been proved to have helped with anxiety, depression, stress, schizophrenia and the like. People mostly tend to follow traditional methods of treatment. However, you must note here that the traditional medications like, benzodiazepines and antipsychotics have a slew of side-effects as well.
Marijuana, on the other hand, has far lesser side-effects as compared to traditional drugs when it comes to mental illness. The calming effect of medicinal marijuana is the result of its impact on neurotransmitter GABA, which acts as a repellent for anxiety attacks. This is where CBD comes into play.
What is CBD? – CBD mental health
Cannabidiol (CBD) which commonly comes in the form of oil is nowadays being increasingly used as an organic alternative for improving mental health. Unlike the cannabinoid THC, CBD is that strain which reduces anxiety levels. It is a friend to the endocannabinoid which is found in scattered quantity in our body. This is the kind of cannabinoid which the body produces on its own. Anandamide, acetylcholine, serotonin, are a few examples of endocannabinoid.
CBD oil is a sure shot way of dealing with anxiety and stress levels. Because it fights with the bad guy- cortisol, which releases stress hormones. Although it is a safe call, there are still researches to be conducted to prove it 100% effective when it comes to treating mental illness. There are diverse strains of Marijuana you can choose from.
The Effectiveness of CBD
There have been quantifiable instances of Marijuana’s magic while dealing with anxiety induced by fear of public speaking. Khalifa Kush strain containing high amounts of CBD is also found to be medically effective for people with anxiety issues. Khalifa has lemony taste and it’s enjoyable smoking experience keeps you uplifted.
Further, it has helped wade through panic attacks. People have sworn by this when it comes to such situations. This is, again, the benefits of getting the cortisol levels under check.
Another property of CBD is its usage in de-addiction. It is widely used to deal with opioid addiction. How this works is as interesting. CBD acts as a catalyst to inhibit the reward mechanism which drives addiction. So it has been used in institutions to treat opioid addiction successfully.
Studies in this area have shown immensely positive results. But there are ambiguities regarding the perfect dosage and methods of CBD ingestion. Marijuana is being consumed, many a time through self-medication. So you have to experiment and figure out on your own what works best for you. If you’re not a fan of inhaling smoke, you can opt for “edibles”. The packaging has the quantity of cannabinoid CBD printed on it. So you can make sure and keep a track of how much you’re consuming. Before you do so, keep in mind that when it comes to cannabis, less is more.
Most importantly, keep a check on the status of its legality in your state/country. This will ease your method of acquiring as well as handling the product. You don’t want to be behind bars over a “medicine”!
