|What is the Entourage Effect?|
Depending on who you ask the Entourage Effect may be defined differently. This is largely due to cannabis’s federally illegal status. Until cannabis is approved for FDA research the Entourage Effect will remain a theory. As of today, interpretation has left us with two distinguished “entourage effect” theories. Unfortunately, only one can be true.
The CONCERT Theory:
The Entourage Effect occurs when the scrum of all the compounds in cannabis work in CONCERT to create the sum of all the parts, leading to what most people refer to as “the magical power of cannabis.”
The more compounds you have the more therapeutic effects you will receive since there are much more cannabinoids within that offer a broader range of benefits. There are 60 + different cannabinoids within cannabis and each offers a different therapeutic effect.
The SYNERGY Theory:
The entourage effect occurs when cannabinoids, terpenoids and other compounds work off one another to produce SYNERGISTIC effects. Specifically, it’s the idea that other molecules, such as CBD, are enhanced when combined with THC.
The idea is that CBD molecules naturally have very low energy to get through your system. When THC is present, CBD attaches itself to the higher energy THC molecules. The THC molecules then act as carrier agents for CBD, transporting them throughout your system.
What’s Right and What’s Wrong?
The differences between these theories are that one claims cannabinoids work in CONCERT and the other claims cannabinoids work SYNERGISTICALLY. The problem is, depending on which theory you choose to believe, you will end up with completely different perspectives when analyzing certain topics.
Hemp vs. Cannabis Derived CBD
The hemp vs. cannabis CBD phenomenon is a perfect topic to help distinguish between these two theories. The phenomenon claims that the CBD molecule from cannabis is much more impactful than coming from hemp. Not to be confused from the overall effects, this theory refers specifically to the CBD molecule itself.
Hemp derived CBD is CBD grown from agricultural hemp. Agricultural hemp and cannabis both come from the Cannabis Sativa L. plant. The only difference is hemp derived CBD doesn’t contain all the other cannabinoids that are familiar to cannabis such as THC. Hemp derived CBD is a great alternative for patients who can’t legally access medical marijuana but can legally acquire hemp-derived CBD or for people who are looking to stay away from the psychoactive effects of THC. CBD grown from hemp contains less than 1% THC, while producing the same CBD molecule.
The fact is, a CBD molecule coming from hemp is exactly the same as if it were coming from cannabis. The only difference is that the content of CBD coming of cannabis is 100 times more than from hemp. Hemp is a supplier of CBD, but a very low supplier of CBD. With that being said, hemp derived CBD is plenty powerful, especially if you vape it.

CONCERT Theory Perspective
Looking through the lens of the Concert theory, it seems simple to conclude that CBD derived from cannabis is more impactful. This is singly due to the fact that there is much more CBD molecules in cannabis than in hemp. The more CBD molecules the more therapeutic effects. On the contrary, CBD derived from hemp will not be as impactful since there is simply less of it. Using the CONCERT theory, this is the only reason why CBD from cannabis is more impactful than from hemp.
SYNERGY Theory Perspective
The SYNERGY theory ultimately arrives at the same conclusion, except promotes a much more polarized decision. This is due to claims that the only way for CBD molecules to be impactful is if they have THC to carry them throughout your system. If this were the case, then the effects of hemp derived CBD would be nonexistent and we all know CBD from hemp works.
The fact is, by itself CBD is an anti-inflammation vehicle, it is not necessarily a pain reliever. When you look at pain relieving mixtures or strains that are given to patients they all contain THC. THC is a numbing agent, in some cases it will numb your brain, but in most cases it will numb your nerves. So in order to mask pain quickly you can use THC. With that being said, claims that a so-called synergistic effect causes cannabis CBD to be more impactful than hemp CBD are simply not true. More than likely it’s just the psychoactive effects from the THC that lead people to believe that they are being better healed.
